Blood pressure measurement

To avoid distorting the blood pressure readings, it is important to take the blood pressure correctly. Blood pressure should be measured while at rest. Ideally, the blood pressure should be measured after sitting for approximately five minutes. 

The position of the left arm should be slightly bent, and it can rest loosely on a support, such as a soft cushion, or on the thigh. 

It is important to position the cuff at heart level, approximately 2 cm above the crook of the elbow.

The average of the two measurements is the one that counts. 

As blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day, it is advisable to measure it at the same time each day.
